The Minister of Unification Lee Jae-joung gave a regular briefing on August 24 and explained the preparation for the rescheduled Inter-Korean Summit Meeting and flood aid for the North.
Preparation for the Rescheduled Inter-Korean Summit
As the preparation period is extended, the government will check related matters closely and collect much more opinions from diverse levels of the society so as to make the summit be more substantial and successful.
In respect to this, Minister Lee said the Unification Ministry has collected opinions about the summit from over 70peoples of diverse fields such as the press and civil organization, and plans to meet more experts in the fields of socio-culture and economy, etc.
In addition, Minister Lee said the government will check the entire matters in a more systematical way.
Flood Aid for the North
North Korea is focusing on flood damage restoration but mainly depends on human power because of insufficient construction materials and restoration equipment. In addition, as infrastructures such as roads and railroads are seriously damaged, there seems to be difficulty in restoration.
Minister Lee said the North had requested the Ministry to send aid on August 21 and the government decided to provide 37.4billion won worth of materials and equipments as a result of consultation among related ministries and offices.
