The Federal Foreign Office is making available EUR 250,000 to help North Koreans affected by heavy floods in their country. This money is being given to German aid organizations so that they can provide the foodstuffs, toiletries, clothes and water purification tablets so urgently needed on the ground.
Devastating rains have caused severe damage in the southern half of the country. More than 300 people are dead or missing. 350,000 have lost their homes. Large tracts of agricultural land have been swept away by the floods in this country in which food is already scarce, and serious damage has been done to roads and bridges. The rains continue.
