The Commission is also actively involved in the response to the floods in North Korea. An expert from the ECHO office in Pyongyang travelled to the stricken region on Wednesday but was unable to reach the worst affected areas due to impassable roads. The Commission has already made €100,000 available from the emergency reserve of an existing humanitarian aid decision for North Korea to provide urgent relief. Initial reports suggest that the main needs will be for emergency shelter, medical assistance, and water/sanitation interventions.
The Commission stands ready to provide financial assistance for relief to the victims of this crisis.
